Michael at Internetmonk.com has a very good article about the “wretched urgency” of some evangelistic efforts. I have felt this way in the past but in a more specific and localized way. It wasn’t the way that I was brought up. But through the years I have been around people who have tried to put undue pressure on the gospel. At times I have succumbed to the pressure and felt the guilt of not being a good witness.
I have come to realize like Michael that there is more to the gospel than just “saving souls”. Living faithfully is a witness. I love what St. Francis of Assisi said “By all means share the gospel. If necessary, use words.” This is a rough paraphrase but it gets the point. Our life is a witness before our words are.
