I’m an introverted person – social situations drain me. Not that I don’t like people but I can only handle so much before I’m emotionally drained. Being alone is not a fearful thing to me, rather it gives me strength. I have always struggled with my role as pastor because I can only handle so much social interaction before I’m “done”. This is not the picture that has been presented of what a pastor is. How can an introvert effectively pastor people?
I’m thankful for this article at the Evangelical Outpost. There is a book that deals with introversion in the church. Our society, especially the evangelical church, can look down upon those who are not driven to success and success is tied to extroversion. Read this article for a more balanced approach to ministry.
